(New York Post) – There is a Doobie daughter on this season of “American Idol,” the New York Post reported Tuesday.
Lara Johnston — daughter of Doobie Brothers lead singer Tom Johnston — got only a few seconds of airtime during last week’s San Francisco audition, but her impressive voice scored her a gold ticket to Hollywood.
But she will be featured on the show this week, according to reports — though it appears the judges do not mention her rock-royalty connections.
Lara has not been idle waiting for her “Idol” fate to be revealed, though.
Since auditioning last summer, Johnston — a music major at University of Southern California and a Dean’s List student every semester she has been there, according to her online bio — has been playing gigs around campus, performing as recently as last Friday.
Her performance fees range from $500 to $1,000 a set.
In 2008, at age 17, Johnston took fifth place in “Rock the Cradle,” an MTV reality show that pit the musically talented offspring of famous musicians against each other.
