(NewsCore) – Scarlett Johansson became the latest celebrity to be invited to a Marine Corps Ball when Sgt. Dustin L. Williams sent the actress a video invitation via YouTube, FOXNews.com reported Thursday.

Johansson, 26, who starred in “Lost in Translation” and “Iron Man 2,” has a previous engagement and is unable to attend the event.

“I feel incredibly honored to have been invited to the Marine Corps Ball by Sgt. Dustin L. Williams. Not only does Sgt. Williams deserve recognition for his bravery, selflessness and dedication to the United States and its people, but he also displays a cheeky talent for film making,” the actress said in a statement.

“Unfortunately due to prior commitments I will not be able to attend the Ball with you this year but I am sending you a case of Moet & Chandon with gratitude. In my absence, I raise a glass to you and all the men and women of the US Marine Corps, past and present, in thanks for your continued commitment to preserving the safety of our nation,” she added.

Williams’ invitation is the latest in a string of YouTube videos posted by US Marines asking their favorite celebrities to attend the annual black tie event.

The online fad began earlier in July, when Sgt. Scott Moore asked “Friends With Benefits” star Mila Kunis to accompany him to the Marine Corps Ball on Nov. 18 in Greenville, N.C.

Meanwhile, Kunis’ “Friends With Benefits” co-star Justin Timberlake got his own invite from Corporal Kelsey De Santis, who posted a video asking the singer turned actor to be her date at a separate Marine Corps Ball on Nov. 12 in Washington, D.C.

Kunis and Timberlake both accepted their invites.

Since then, celebrities such as Betty White and Miley Cyrus have also been approached. White sent an apologetic rejection and Cyrus has yet to respond.
